SIMONS George Francis Simons, Jr., a devoted father and husband, went to be with the Lord on June 27, 2006 after a courageous and dignified battle with cancer. He was born on May 22, 1952 and was a life long resident of Houston. He attended Robert E. Lee High School in Houston, Texas, graduating in 1970, and from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order from which he had many life long friendships. Following receipt of his undergraduate degree in 1974, he attended the University of Houston School of Law and was admitted to the Texas Bar in 1979, practicing law in Houston until his death. George was also a rancher, enjoying immensely the cattle business on the family ranch in Jackson County, Texas and was particularly thankful for the resulting friendships and help he received from the Tipton Family, Joe Rodriquez and others in the Edna, Texas community. George is preceded in death by his father, George F. Simons, Sr. and mother, Florence Dean Simons of Houston. He is survived by his wife Dorothy and daughters Charlotte and Lillie of Houston, Texas, sister Loine Ann Simons of Edna, Texas, his wife's parents, Paul and Charlotte Brunette of Wichita Falls, Texas, his brother-in-law David Brunette and wife, Brenda and nieces and nephew Neely and Reed Brunette of Houston, and numerous close friends and relatives. Honorary pallbearers are Brian Gentle, Marty Harris, Darrell Hurmis, Keith Blair, Howard Castleberry, Don Beckham and Don Miller. A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 3:30 PM at St. John the Divine Episcopal Church (2450 River Oaks Blvd. at Westheimer) with a reception following in Sumners Hall. The family extends special thanks to the staff at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, especially Dr. Michael Wong. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. John the Divine Episcopal Church in his honor.
